Beauty Box Showdown- September 2016

It’s the battle of the beauty boxes! As you may already know from my previous unboxing posts, I am subscribed to Birchbox, and I am absolutely in love with it. I had to give it up for the summer as I was not in the UK but as soon as I got back on British soil I had to renew my subscription because I can’t live without it. I also decided to get Glossybox for the first time, maybe because I am a hoarder and I would like to have all the beauty products in the world, but this is another popular beauty box which sends their subscribers amazing products. I thought it would be fun to do a little box-off every month and see who the winner is each time!

Let’s start with Birchbox! This month’s theme is ‘Heroes’ and the box is set up a little bit differently: it comes with a keepsake drawer instead of the usual lid. I like the drawer more than the lid because I intend to use the box as storage, and I think the drawer makes it more practical. How cute are the colours on the box, though? The most beautiful pastel pink, blue and yellow! This is one of my favourite designs ever! Now on to the content…

So my box is packed with the most heroic beauty must-haves and I’m really exited to try them all! The first thing that really caught my eye is the Starskin Smoothing Bio-Cellulose Second Skin Eye Masks. Wow, that’s a long name but basically, these ‘eye catchers’ are supposed to brighten, smooth and de-puff the delicate skin around your eyes. I’ve never tried eye masks before so I will definitely bust them out at my next pamper session!
The next product is Jane Iredale Smooth Affair Facial Primer & Brightener. I’m looking forward to using this because it claims to smooth the skin and minimise pores, to help makeup glide on and last way longer than before. Can’t wait to put it to the test on my oily skin and hopefully my makeup won’t slide off by midday anymore.
There was another makeup product in this month’s Birchbox and it is a Highlighting Trio by Model Co. A full size treat from the Aussie brand containing three radiance-enhacing creamy pigments which can be used onto cheekbones, brow bones and eyelids for an instant glow.
I also got a hair product: amika Bombshell Blowout Spray. This lightweight spritz is described as a styling superstar- volumising, smoothing, and texturing in one. It also contains nourishing antioxidants to strengthen and repair damage too.
The last product in my Birchbox is the Prodigieux Shower Oil by NUXE. I’ve heard such good things about this brand before and now I get to feel luxurious in the shower too! This precious scented shower oil with golden shimmer cleanses and leaves a satin finish. My skin is going to be beautifully pampered!

I also got a cute little bracelet as a gift for resubscribing to Birchbox. It is gold with a mint green strand so you can tie it to your hand and it says ‘Achieve’ on it.

Let’s move on to Glossybox! To kick of September, Glossybox has teamed up with Red magazine to curate a special Editor’s Choice box. Annabel Meggeson, Beauty Director, loves the sense of possibility and new beginnings that September represents so inside every box subscriber will discover an edit of autumnal beauty favourites to help them kick start the new season in style.

Glossybox packaging is absolutely gorgeous! If you are already subscribed to it you may know that the regular box is pink but this month they went for red because of the partnership with Red magazine. Even if this month’s box is different, it still looks very luxurious with its tissue paper, white bow and signature sticker. 10/10 just for the packaging! Well done Glossybox!
I was surprised to find six products in my box and not only five. And to top it all off, three of them are full size! How amazing is that? To begin with, every September box comes with a deluxe sample of Better Than Sex Mascara by Too Faced. This isn’t my first time trying this mascara so I already know that I am obsessed with it. The collagen-fueler formula thickens and lengthens lashes, and gives them a beautiful, inky-black finish. I wish I got the waterproof formula as I haven’t had the chance to try that one out yet but the original one will do.
One of the full sized products is a Smokey Eye Pen by Rodial. Sexily kohled waterline made its comeback this season and this pen is perfect for achieving the look. I normally don’t use eyeliner but this one looks like it’s very creamy and pigmented so I might give it a try.
The next full size product comes from the brand GOSH COPENHAGEN and it’s a Long Lasting Lip Marker. I got mine in shade Soft Rose and it’s a really pretty lip stain that will add a hint of pink to your lips. It is supposed to stay put for hours so I’m excited to put it to the test.
And the last full size product is Revlon Gel Envy Diamond Top Coat, a beauty cupboard staple! This tough lacquer makes your mani last much longer and gives nails a fabulous, salon-worthy shine. It is formulated with Diamond Flex Technology which promises to give a chip-proof, long-lasting finish!
What got me most excited about the box is the Vitamasques Hydro Face Mask. Inspired by Korean technology, this mask infuses your skin with a heavy dose of moisture and keeps it hydrated for up to 120 hours! How crazy is that? That’s nearly a week!! HydroGel masks have a better ability to hold in moisture than sheet masks, plus they are made from a slicker material that sticks to the face easier and doesn’t slip.
And the final sample in my box was the Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask from The Body Shop. Described as superfood for your face, this parabens, paraffin, silicone and mineral oil free mask draws out impurities and refines the appearance of pores for healthy-looking skin with a glow that shows.
You can subscribe to Glossybox here for only £10+ 3.25 P&P/ Month.
And now the VERDICT…it’s so hard to pick my favourite box because I really liked them both but this month the winner is…Glossybox. Maybe I was more impressed with it because it was my first time getting it. However, both beauty boxes delivered great products in really beautiful packages.
