New Year, New Goals

Oh what a year 2016 has been! Eventful to say the least. It had its ups and downs but all in all it was a good year. I travelled to some really nice places (check out my travel posts here), I started my blog and went to my very first bloggers event (read about it here) which brought me nothing but happiness. I’ve also been served some L’s but I turned those losses into lessons and got right back up. This year I decided to set myself some goals and put them in a blog post so I can look back at this later on and see if I achieved them. Here are some 17 things that I hope will contribute to making 2017 my best year so far!

  • Save money for travelling

I love travelling and discovering new places. One trip that I’m hoping to do this year is to go to New York during the holidays. I went there a few years ago during the summer and I am head over heels for the city so now I’m dying to see it looking all festive.

  • Read at least two books a month

If there’s one thing that I can do well is read one book a day but since I don’t have the time for that I promised myself I will read at least two a month.

  • Exercise more and start dancing again

I’ve only recently started going more to the gym and it actually feels really nice. Once you go regularly it becomes a healthy habit and I want to exercise even more this year. I also want to get back into dancing and take some classes because it’s another passion of mine that I don’t want to let go of.

  • Get involved in charity work

Besides donating clothes I’ve never been involved in charity work and I am determined to change that in 2017. I am really inspired by vloggers Judy and Benji Travis who this year managed to raise over $500.000 in their annual fundraiser called Dancember. I know I don’t have their online influence but I still want to do something for a good cause.

  • Stop procrastinating

I am one of the biggest procrastinators ever and I hate it because I end up stressing myself a lot. This year I will try to fix this issue and be very organised.

  • Do very well in university

I have pretty good grades at uni and I’m quite proud of them. I think for an international student uni can be ten times harder but I managed to stay on top of it and I want this year to be at least as good as the previous one in this department.

  • Put my phone down more

I am one of those people who’s always on their phone and since I started blogging it got even worse. You always want to check stats, followers, mentions and all that and I think we get caught up in it. Even at night when I can’t sleep I still reach for my phone. In 2017 I will put my phone down more and even take 24 hour breaks from the internet.

  • Invest in photography equipment

Besides travelling this is another thing I want to invest my money in- photography. I want to save for a new camera, a nice lens, some more props and possibly a soft box light for next the next autumn and winter. I would also like to learn more about photography and go beyond knowing how to press the button and change a few settings.

  • Be consistent with my blog and post at least twice a week

One thing that I learned since I started blogging (besides six other more which you can see here) is that consistency is key in growing your blog. I will attempt to post at least twice a week this year and work really hard on my little corner of the internet.

  • Grow my blog and social media

I reached all my blog and social media goals in 2016 and I’m hoping to see my platforms grow even more this year. I don’t see why I won’t reach new milestones as long as I continue to work hard. If you fancy following me on social media, you can find some links at the end of this post and on the sidebar.

  • Start a newsletter

I would love to have a newsletter for my blog which could be sent out to lovely subscribers maybe once a month. I haven’t figured out the content for the newsletters but I was thinking blog posts recaps, giveaways or interviews with other bloggers. If you have any suggestions about this feel free to let me know in the comments section.

  • Start making videos

I want to take the plunge and make some Youtube videos even though I’m terrified that no one will watch. In 2015 I posted a couple of videos and they were doing pretty well but I got to embarrassed so I deleted them and thought blogging was my calling.

  • Do more writing

I’m not talking here just about blog writing, but I want to write more in general. I was once told by a teacher that I have what it takes to write a book. I’ve never taken her words seriously because writing a book takes a lot of time, hard work and even courage but now I’m thinking why the fuck not try it?

  • Open an e-shop

I always dreamed big and this is probably my biggest dream right now. I want to have a small online shop where I could sell some stationary bits such as cute instagrammable prints, notebooks or stickers.

  • Allow myself to have a bad day

Whenever I have a bad day I try to fight it but sometimes it gets worse and I get annoyed at everyone and everything, including myself. I want to give in, have my bad day and not force myself into being happy. I will take the day to regroup and tell myself that it’s just a bad day and not a bad life.

  • Stop comparing myself to others

This is another thing that I need to work on. Most often I compare myself to others without even realising it and it’s quite disheartening. I am more than okay with my imperfections so I just need to focus on my journey and my own strengths. And when it comes to numbers, I will constantly remind myself that likes, views or followers don’t define or make others a better person than me.

  • Put myself first

This sounds pretty selfish but it’s far from that. I am that person that goes above and beyond for someone without expecting anything in return. Last year I put other people’s happiness above mine and all my efforts were taken for granted so I ended up getting hurt. That’s when I realised I had to cut those people out of my life, start taking more care of myself and do what I want and what makes me happy for once.

Let me know in the comments below what you are hoping to achieve in 2017! Happy New Year!

Sounds like some really sensible and achievable goals here, Alina! Good on you! Reading more and putting down your phone are excellent choices, there's nothing nicer than getting immersed in a book without distraction! Hope you have a fantastic 2017!

I need to put my phone down more!

Have you looked at YNAB to help with holiday budgeting? I love these goals! Reading used to be a big thing pre children too. I hope once my anxiety is under control to be able to focus on books once again!

I wish you all the best on your 2017 adventure! X

A great list of goals! I totally agree on "allow myself a bad day" – I've been prone to feeling down in the dumps and then stressing about feeling down which just makes the overall situation worse. Good luck to the both of us for overcoming this in 2017!
