Review: PMD Personal Microderm

I’ve been dealing with acne scars and uneven skin tone for as long as I can remember so microdermabrasion was always on my ‘things that I need to try to clear my skin’ list. However, getting a couple of microdermabrasion sessions in a clinic is way out of my budget. So when PMD asked if I wanted to try out one of their at-home personal microderm* of course I couldn’t say no. I’ve been testing the device for about five weeks now and I think I’m ready to share my thoughts and results with you.

First things first, I’m going to give you some basic information about this device, in case you are wondering what the heck is this and what it actually does. The Personal Microderm or the PMD is an amazing at-home skincare tool that provides the same results as professional in-office microdermabrasion treatments, for a fraction of the price. It works to remove dead, dull skin cell barrier, increase blood flow and stimulate the natural production of collagen end elastin. Are you still with me?
Basically, the hand-held device uses a vacuum suction to exfoliate away dead cells and leave you with a smooth, even skin tone and reduced fine lines, wrinkles, blemishes and enlarged pores. The Personal Microderm uses a small spinning disc to perform the exfoliation without the need of harsh manual scrubbing which can be quite daunting if you have oily and acne prone skin. In the box you get several different discs for your face and also for your body or larger surfaces so there’s definitely a right disc for you and your skin in there. However, it is recommended that you start with the ones for sensitive skin before using a stronger disc.
How do you use this fancy gadget? It is advised to use it no more than once a week, after thoroughly cleansing the skin and making sure it’s free from all makeup, dirt and oils. Before you begin to use the personal microderm, allow the skin to dry completely. This is a particularly important step in the process because if the skin is damp the disc will be unable to glide over it. Test the disc on a small area of your neck or forearm to see how your skin reacts and then you’re good to go. Pull the skin tight with your free hand so the disc glides smoothly across the surface. Place the PMD on your face and drag towards your ear. You’ll feel the suction immediately. Do not stop in one spot and do not go over the same area twice. An instructions manual and DVD is provided in the box so you can understand how you can use the PMD safely.
Now let’s talk about my results. After using the personal microderm for five weeks I am completely sold. It has changed my skincare game completely and I cannot recommend it enough because it has made such a difference. I’ve been using it once as week, as indicated, and I know this is going to sound crazy because when it comes to skincare, you don’t really see an improvement after using a product once. Well with the PMD you do see changes in your skin within one use.
I noticed that my skin is now way smoother and it’s soft like a baby’s butt. Because of the dead cells being removed, my skin now drinks every product that I lay on it. Moisturisers, oils, anything gets absorbed very quickly and they’re not just sitting on my face, ready to clog my pores and make me break out.
In terms of helping with my acne scars, I have noticed that the old ones are starting to fade and my skin doesn’t feel that ‘texturised’ anymore. Over the years I’ve tried so many things that were supposed to leave me with a brighter and clearer face but the PMD is probably the only thing that has made an actual noticeable difference. I rarely get any spots now and if I do, the aftermath is not as bad as before. The areas where I get the occasional blemishes are healing a lot faster and there’s hardly any scarring left.
Overall, I am so pleased with this device and I definitely won’t stop using it anytime soon. My skin hasn’t looked so good in a really long time. It is now brighter, smoother, less oilier and all thanks to my personal microderm. I can’t wait to see further changes in my skin in the upcoming weeks! If you’re looking to get your hands on this little magical gadget, it is in stock at the moment on the PMD website or Harrods.
What are your thoughts on the personal microderm? Have you ever tried microdermabrasion?
