What would my life be without concealer? I know most people need coffee in the morning to wake up and feel alive but all I need is a little bit of full-coverage concealer and I’m good to go. Because if I look good, I feel good. You know what I’m saying? Anyway, I think I may have discovered my new favourite feel good product that has literally blown my mind from the first time I used it and if you can’t tell from the picture, I’m talking about the Nars Soft Matte Complete Concealer.
This is the brand’s first concealer that comes in a pot and it claims to conceal and smooth imperfections (duh), provide a full-coverage but natural look and remain comfortable, long-wearing and non-drying. It comes in 18 shades that cover all sorts of skin tones from fair to deep. I got mine in shade Vanilla which is the second to lightest colour in the range #palegirlproblems. I’m not complaining though. This shade is perfect for my skin tone and it works great on top of my foundation as well.
As I mentioned above, the product comes in a little pot with a rubberised cap which can get a bit filthy over time but ya know, at the end of the day it’s just makeup (unless you’re using a Nars product whilst demolishing a pizza or something like that) and it can get cleaned quite easily.
The first time I opened the pot, the concealer looked like it’s gonna be rock solid texture wise, so of course I had to dip my finger in it and actually feel it. Turns out my first impression was completely wrong. Despite the misleading appearance, the product feels really soft and creamy and although the word ‘matte’ probably scared a lot of people, it shouldn’t because it’s not the drying kind of matte.
I like applying the product with a beautyblender but I think a flat synthetic brush would work great as well with this pot concealer. I mainly use it under my eyes and the beautyblender helps blending it really quick and easy. Soft Matte looks absolutely beautiful on the skin. The coverage is the definition of ‘full’ like it could erase in 2.5 seconds any signs of sleepless nights, drunk nights, spots, scars, you name it. It has a thick consistency but it goes smoothly on the skin, practically melting into it, without compromising the coverage.
I find that this concealer has a powdery finish to it so therefore it will set almost instantly, delivering that full-coverage, matte look that Nars was mentioning in the product description. My under eyes are quite dry but I’ve never experienced any creasing or ‘cakeyness’ when using the Soft Matte concealer around this area even when I set it with a powder, so more brownie points for the product. It is also super long-wearing and it won’t budge all.day.long.
So the question is…is the Nars Soft Matte concealer worth the hype? Well my verdict is YES!! I am very picky when it comes to concealers but this one is hands down the best one I’ve ever tried and I would definitely repurchase it once I finish this pot. It has everything I want in a concealer and more: coverage, blendability and a flawless, natural finish. So I totally understand why this has become a cult product and for me, it has quickly become my holy grail.
